  • The County of Macon Emergency Management is launching a new community information service designed to deliver important and time sensitive information to residents of Macon County.
"If we have a missing child in the county, an evacuation ordered, a tornado warning, severe thunderstorms or any major thing like that where people would need to heed they will receive this update," said Macon County Office of Emergency Management Director Michael Shively.
The service, created by Nixle LLC., delivers notifications by web, email and cell phone. The service is free unless you do not have text messaging on your cell phone.
"My job is to get timely information out to the residents in Macon County," said Shivley. "I came across this program and thought it would be perfect to supplement the warning procedures we already had in place."
To sign up for these notifications go to www.nixle.com or text MACONEMA to 888777.
