On Thursday afternoon, the Macon County Sheriffs Office was contacted by the Washington Parish Sheriff Office that they had an arrest warrant for a suspect, who they said was involved in a murder of a Tilly McCain that took place in Washington Parish, Louisiana. They felt their investigation had led them to LaPlata and requested for the Macon County Sheriffs Office assistance in apprehending, Jerry Ronald Graves.
Graves, 35, of Sandy Hook, Miss., was apprehended by law enforcement without conflict.
“We did some investigating ourselves,” Sheriff Dawson said. “Three from my department, two highway patrolmen, and a LaPlata Police Officer responded to LaPlata this afternoon. After making a traffic stop on Graves, we apprehended him and transported him back to the Macon County Jail.”
Sheriff Dawson said Graves has a warrant for first degree murder from Washington Parish in the State of Louisiana. He is being held in the Macon County Jail until Louisiana law enforcement picks him up.
An article posted on the Daily News website on Nov. 8, 2011, speaks of a brutal murder of 63-year-old Tilly McCain. The murder took place in McCain’s home.
According to the article, McCain’s family members believe it happened sometime between 7 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 5 and 4 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 6. A family member discovered Tilly McCain's body after 6 a.m. Sunday. According to Chief Blair, there were no signs of a forced entry at the home. There were signs of a bloody struggle throughout the home, according to investigators, and the murderer may have been injured during the fight.

The next speech meet is to be held on Saturday, March 3 at Mexico. On Sunday, Jan. 29 the school will begin their celebration of Catholic Schools Week at 10 a.m. mass.
