  • The following Macon Moment in History was taken from the June 25, 1998 edition of the Macon Chronicle-Herald.
    The city of Atlanta is selling its lake located one mile south of Atlanta. According to Mayor Jim Dittmore the 17-acre lake was once the city’s water source, but now is not needed due to a pipeline that extends directly from Macon to Atlanta’s water tower.
    Pvt. B. Allen Simmons graduated from basic training in the Army National Guard at Fort Leonard Wood.
    Those in charge of the Macon Business and Professional Women’s Club were: Janet Fetters, Mary vonThun, Claire Cresap, Fern Sneary and Carol Howell.
