  • Bettye Rector, 86, of Macon thinks she may be one of the oldest patrons of the Macon Public Library.
"I remember my dad bringing me to the library before I could even read," said Bettye. "I also remember walking past the library going back and forth while attending Central School."
Bettye joined other library patrons last Thursday for a High Tea in the library meeting room as part of the celebration for National Library Week.
Library Director Teri Mayhew said that 24 ladies, many decked out in hats and gloves, and 3 gentlemen attended the event.
"We thought the tea would be a fun way to celebrate," said Mayhew. "We are excited to have everyone join us here this week. We want them to know that the library is here for them."
Bettye agrees that the library provides something for everyone, "Books are our friends." she said.
