The crash at 9 a.m. involved two tractor-trailers and two passenger vehicles. A tractor trailer driven by a California man didn't slow down while the other vehicles were stopped at a traffic signal. The tractor trailer rammed into the back of a car and a pickup, pushing them under a truck that was stopped in front of them. The car and pickup were crushed, killing the drivers on the spot.
Corey Gresham, 41, of Macon was one of the two drivers killed in the chain-reaction crash. The other victim was Lawrence Coan, 65, of Kimberling City.
The westbound lanes of the highway were reopened after the five-hour on-scene investigation was completed.
Both surviving drivers were tested for alcohol as required by state law.
According to KY3 News, the truck driver who caused the accident was charged with two counts of first-degree involuntary manslaughter.
