  • For the last 25 years the Macon Jaycees have hosted a basketball tournament, only this year was the first time the tournament featured third and fourth grade participants instead of fifth and sixth graders.
"The fifth and sixth grade tournaments conflicted with a lot of other teams," said Jaycees President Lorie Thompson. "So we decided to try third and fourth grade instead. We were happy with the outcome, and everybody who participated seemed to be happy with it."
The basketball tournament was Friday evening and Saturday morning in the Macon High School gymnasium. Three boy’s teams and two girl's teams participated. For the boys, the GFS Balllers took first place, Westran placed second and the Macon    Fusion team placed third. For the girls, Macon beat the GFS Ballers.
When asked what their favorite part about the tournament was, the Tigerettes’ answer was unanimous—“winning!” yelled all the girls.
All participants received ribbons, and the first and second place boys teams received trophies.
The Jaycees raised $484. Those funds will go toward future community projects. Their next fundraiser will be a Father Daughter Dance on March 30.
