  • Macon demolishes Louisiana 45-15

  • The Macon Tigers defeated the Louisiana Bulldogs Friday night at Cunningham Field.

  • After dropping 49 points on struggling Highland, the Macon Tigers took their game on the road Friday night for a battle against the Louisiana Bulldogs.
    It was Homecoming at Cunningham Field, and the Tigers are more than used to crashing a party.
    The Bulldogs would win the coin toss, but would defer, giving Macon the first possession.
    The Tigers would waste little time on their first drive, driving into the Bulldog redzone, and senior running back Gabe Gravitt would punchit in from six yards out for a touchdown. The PAT by Andre Reynolds gave the Tigers an early 7-0 lead.
    On the Bulldogs' first drive, they seemed to be up to the challenge, as they drove down the field in about four minutes, and scoring on an option play from QB Greg Pitzer to running back Traye Labby on a 5-yard TD run. Kicker Brendan Ross hit the PAT, and just like that the game was tied at 7-7.
    Macon was back in business just three minutes later, driving into Bulldog territory and scoring on a 25-yard TD pass from Craig Smith to Brendan Watts. Reynolds' PAT gave the Tigers a 14-7 lead. Linebacker C.J. Gast would recover a fumble in Louisiana territory to end the first quarter.
    Macon drove into the redzone again to start the second quarter, and just 28 seconds in, scored on a one-yard dive by Smith. Reynolds' kick would go wide, his first miss of the season, and Macon upped their lead to 20-7.
    The Bulldogs looked for an answer, but the Tiger defense forced a fumble, and DB Tim Hall would recover.
    At the 3:38 mark in the second quarter, Smith would hand it off to Levi Walker, who scored on a 5-yard scamper. Walker would punch in the 2-point conversion to give Macon a 28-7 halftime lead.
    Louisiana took the second half kickoff and looked to do something with it, but the Tiger "D" again came up big, forcing another fumble, and lineman Cody Lolli recovered for Macon.
    At the 3:36 mark of the third, running back Chris Little hit paydirt on a 9-yard TD run. Reynolds' PAT gave Macon a 35-7 lead at the third quarter ended.
    At the 7:38 mark of the fourth quarter, Reynolds would display his power, as he knocked through a 26-yard field goal, increasing Macon's lead to 38-7.
    With less than 3:00 left, Macon scored its final touchdown on a 3-yard run by RB Trae Adams. Reynolds' PAT made the score 45-7.
    Louisiana would end the scoring with 31 seconds to go, on a 25-yard run by RB Austin Rule. He would add the 2-pointer, making the final score 45-15, Macon with the win.

    The parade will be downtown at 3:00 p.m., with the game at 7:00 p.m.
