On the heels of a varsity win against Kirksville, the Macon junior varsity Tigers looked to begin the year with a win against Kirksville as well.
Macon opened up the scoring late in the second quarter when quarterback Tel Dye connected with Gabe Gravitt on a 38-yard touchdown reception. Jordan Bealmer added the PAT to make it 7-0, Macon.
In the third quarter, Andre Reynolds picked off a Kirksville pass, setting up a 44-yard run by Levi Walker to give Macon a 13-0 lead.
Later in the period, Jordan Bealmer punched through a 25-yard field goal to increase the Macon lead to 16-0.
Kirksville would counter with a 65-yard touchdown run and a two-point conversion to close the gap to 16-8.
Levi Walker would seal the win with an interception on Kirksville’s last possession to end the game, making the final score 16-8.
The JV squad followed the varsity example, starting the year at 1-0, and will be back in action Monday, September 13 when they travel to Center to take on the Mark Twain Tigers.
