La Plata Basketball Tournament action

The La Plata Tournament was in full swing Thursday night.
A girl’s consolation semifinal was first on the schedule, with a match-up featuring the host La Plata Lady Dogs and the Atlanta Lady Hornets.
It was a big night for the Lady Dogs, as they advanced to the consolation final with a 63-22 win over the rival Lady Hornets.
Emily Heissler led the Lady Dogs with 19 points. Mallory Eitel had a good night, scoring 18 points.
Rachel Shahan followed with 14 points. MaKay Belt scored 6 points.
Jenny McIntyre tallied 4 points, and Brittaney Bingham added 2 points.
Shelby Tipton led the Lady Hornets with 8 points. Amanda Spearman followed with 6 points.
Amelia Smothers tallied 4 points, and Miranda Hruska and Cindy Erwin each added 2 points.
The Lady Hornets fall to 2-14 overall and will play for 7th place tonight at 4:30 p.m. against Green City.
The Lady Dogs improve to 12-4 overall and will play North Shelby for consolation tonight at 7:10 p.m.
The Atlanta Hornet men played the next game, a consolation semifinal against the Raiders of North Shelby.
It was a tight game in the first half, with the Raiders leading 21-19 at halftime. North broke it open in the second half and pulled away for a 52-42 win.
Travis Miller led the Hornets with 17 points. Derek Jackson followed with 7 points.
Brady Bogart scored 6 points. Nathaniel Lush scored 5 points.
Mick Garnett and Aaron Sampson each tallied 3 points, and Jesse Likes added 1 point.
The Hornets fall to 5-11 overall and will play for 7th place tonight at 5:50 p.m. against the Panthers of Madison.
The La Plata Bulldog men played the final game of the evening. It would be a tough one, for the opponent was the Tigers of Canton.
The Bulldogs held a 12-point lead after the first period, but the Tigers came storming back to take a 26-22 halftime lead.
Down only 39-34 after three periods, La Plata tried to come back, but Canton held them off to claim a 60-55 win.
Birdie Buck led the Bulldogs with 16 points. Weston Smith followed with 13 points.
Taylor Wheeler scored 10 points. Christian Bunch scored 7 points and 8 assists.
Hayden Fouch tallied 7 points, 8 rebounds and 4 steals. Dalton Smith added 2 points.
The Bulldogs drop only their second game of the year, falling to 14-2 overall.
La Plata will take on the Cairo Bearcats for 3rd place Saturday at 4:20 p.m.
