La Plata teams take on Atlanta, Madison

The La Plata basketball teams began their run in their own tournament Tuesday night.
The Lady Dogs first opponent of the tourney would be the Madison Lady Panthers.
In was a slow start for the Lady Dogs, as Madison outscored them by six to take a 10-4 lead.
Both teams managed 12 points in the second period, but the Lady Panthers took a 22-16 halftime lead.
Madison would distance themselves in the third, outscoring La Plata 15-10 to take a 37-26 lead into the final frame.
The Lady Dogs made a run in the fiourth quarter, outscoring Madison 12-9, but it wasn’t enough as the Lady Panthers claimed a 46-38 win.
Rachel Shahan led the Lady Dogs with 12 points. Emily Heissler and Brittaney Bingham each followed with 8 points.
Jenny McIntyre scored 4 points. Emily Snodgrass cashed in 3 points.
MaKay Belt tallied 2 points, and Mallory Eitel added 1 point.
The Lady Dogs drop to 11-4 overall and will play the Atlanta Lady Hornets Thursday at 4:30 p.m.
The Bulldog men played the final game of the night, with their opponent being the rival Atlanta Hornets.
Things started quickly for the Bulldogs, as they dropped 30 points in the first period, taking a 30-12 lead after a quarter.
Things only got worse for the Hornets, as La Plata dropped 19 more points in the second, taking a 49-19 lead into halftime.
The Bulldogs would outscore the Hornets 27-15 the rest of the way to claim an easy 76-34 win.
One interesting note: the La Plata boys shot 13-22 from 3-point-land, which is an impressive 59%.
Birdie Buck led the Bulldogs with 16 points and 4 assists. Hayden Fouch followed with 13 points and 5 assists.
Taylor Wheeler scored 12 points grabbing 6 rebounds. Weston Smith scored 11 points.
Dustin Groseclose cashed in 8 points and 5 rebounds. Dalton Smith chalked up 6 points.
Christian Bunch tallied 6 points and 4 assists, and Kyle Jackson added 4 points.
Mick Garnett and Travis Miller each scored 11 points to lead the Hornets.
Derek Jackson scored 7 points. Nathaniel Lush and Dylan Hruska each tallied 2 points, and Aaron Sampson added 1 point.
The Hornets fall to 5-10 overall and will take on the Raiders of North Shelby Thursday at 5:50 p.m.
The Bulldog men improve to 14-1 overall and will play the Canton Tigers Thursday at 8:30 p.m.
