The Macon junior varsity basketball teams traveled to Shelbina Monday night for a doubleheader against the archrival South Shelby Cardinals.
The Macon Tigerettes looked good in the first period, as they outscored the Lady Birds by two to take a 12-10 lead.
South Shelby turned up the heat in the second frame, as they outscored Macon 19-11 to take a 29-21 halftime lead.
The Lady Birds continued to pour it on in the third period, dropping 16 points, holding Macon to six, taking a 45-27 lead into the final frame.
The Tigerettes made a furious comeback in the fourth quarter, outscoing South Shelby 18-11, but it wasn’t enough, as the Lady Birds took a 56-45 win.
Alex Blodgett led the way for Macon with 17 points. Kierstin Johnson followed with 11 points.
Allison Bright scored 8 points, Paige Klocke tallied 7 points, and Trinity Rainey added 2 points.
The JV Tigerettes fall to 4-8 on the season.
In between the two games, Macon and South Shelby’s boys team opted to play two extra quarters, giving substitute players a chance to play.
The Tigers would do well in this game, as they defeated the Cardinals by the count of 26-20.
Andre Reynolds led the Tigers with 8 points. Henry Walker, Carson Miller and Kendall Kothe each added 6 points.
The main boys game would follow.
Macon got off to a little bit of a slow start, but was leading after the first quarter. The score was 13-11.
The Tigers would turn it on in the second period. Macon would outscore South Shelby 17-7 to take a 30-18 halftime lead.
Things would only get worse for the Cardinals, as Macon outscored South 11-7 in the third period, giving the Tigers a 41-25 lead heading to the final frame.
Macon would seal the deal in the final period, outscoring the Cardinals 11-8 to claim a big 52-33 victory.
Jacob Klingsmith led the Tigers with 11 points. Tyrone Walker and Nic Hamilton followed with 10 points each.
Trapper Troy scored 9 points. Carl Jennings cashed in 5 points.
Kody Johnson tallied 3 points, and Tyler Shoemaker and Taquan Kelly each added 2 points.
The Macon Tigers remain undefeated, improving to 13-0 on the season.
Macon will play its final home games of the season Thursday night with a doubleheader against the Tigers of Marceline.
The Macon girls and boys teams will take part in the Knox County War Eagle Tournament next week.
