The Bevier Wildcat basketball teams battled the Bosworth Bulldogs Wednesday night in the consolation semifinals of the Keytesville Tournament.
With the absence of Cheyenne Shelmadine, the other Lady Cats needed to step it up, and they did in a big way. Bevier walloped on Bosworth 46-21.
Dominica Prokup led the Lady Cats with 13 points, 4 rebounds, 5 assists, and an impressive 8 steals.
Valle Wilson scored 10 points, grabbed 8 rebounds, had 2 assists and a steal.
Samantha Templeton scored 6 points, 6 rebounds, 3 assists and 4 steals. Courtney Mattingley scored 6 points, 7 rebounds and a steal.
Alex Fesler scored 5 points, 2 rebounds and an assist.
Andrea Gonzalez, a foreign-exchange student from Spain, chipped in 4 points and had a rebound.
Alyssa McKenzie tallied 2 points and 2 rebounds, and Christina Templeton added 4 rebounds.
The Lady Cats improve to 3-12 overall and will play the host Keytesville Lady Tigers for the consolation title, Friday at 5 p.m.
The Wildcat men played Bosworth next, and had a real cat and dog fight.
Bevier was forced to play without one of their big forces, Jesse Shelmadine, who suffered nearly the same kind of injury as his sister, Cheyenne, did, though not as severe.
Bevier got out in front with just minutes to go, Bosworth kept fouling, but the Wildcats had trouble hitting their free-throws.
The Wildcats managed to hang on for a slim 58-56 victory.
Dru Kerns led the Wildcats in scoring, with 18 points. Dalton Livingston followed with 16 points and 10 rebounds, a double-double.
McKenzie Pipes scored 13 points. Andy McGhee cashed in 4 points.
Logan Yount tallied 4 points, grabbing 10 rebounds, and Wade Teter added 2 points.
The Wildcats improve to 9-6 on the season and will play for the consolation title Friday at 6:30 p.m. against the Wildcats of Brunswick.
