Bobby J Jones "Bob" was born in Macon, Missouri on September 15, 1921, where he resided during his childhood and youth and where he met and married his wife, Ida Lorene Jones.  Shortly after the marriage, he accepted employment in Chicago, Illinois.
Within the first year after his marriage the United States became involved in World War II.  He volunteered for service in the US Marine Corps.  He served his country with distinction in the Pacific Theatre as a member of the Marine Air Corps.  He escaped injury when a plane in which he was flying in the Pacific Islands was struck by enemy fire and was forced down.
After the war he returned to the Kansas City area and resided for many years with his wife and two sons in Overland Park, Kansas.  His career highlights included managing three different small businesses, working as a flight line aviation mechanic, and working as a sales executive.  He loved mechanical work and was gifted in working with his hands.  He moved with his wife to Lakeland, Florida in 1979 where he resided at the time of his passing.  For many years after his retirement, he volunteered numerous hours of work on multiple Habitat for Humanity home construction projects in Lakeland, Florida.
Bob was a dedicated husband and father and provided core character and support for a very strong and close knit family.  He was an active church member throughout his life serving in various church leader positions.  He was a member of the First Methodist Church of Lakeland at the time of his passing.  He is survived by his wife, Lorene; his two sons, Randall B. Jones (Randy), of Edmonds, Washington, and Terrence D. Jones (Terre) of Reston, Virginia; two daughters-in-law, Cecilia Jones of Edmonds, Washington, and Polly Jones of Reston, Virginia.  Also surviving him are brother, William E. (Bill) Jones of New Port Richey, Florida; his granddaughter, Eryn Lampe of Sterling, Virginia; as well as two grandsons, Jacob and Dylan.
He is loved deeply by his family and friends who will always cherish the lifetime of wonderful memories he has provided.  He departed this earth on August 21, 2010, at the age of 88 years.
Funeral services will be Thursday, August 26, 2010, at 2 pm at the Hutton & McElwain Funeral Home in Macon.  Burial will be in the Oakwood Cemetery in Macon.  Visitation will be Thursday afternoon from 12 pm until the time of the service.  Memorials are to the charity of the donor’s choice.
