This year Crime Victims’ Rights Week will be April 18-24. The theme is Crime Victims’ Rights: Fairness, Dignity, Respect, which serves as a reminder of the not-so-distant past when victims were routinely excluded from courtrooms, blamed for their victimization, and services for victims of crime were simplly not a priority of the criminal justice system. While there has been tremendous progress, we must continue to work diligently so that every victim is afforded the fairness, dignity, and respect they deserve.
Macon County Probation and Parole staff have arranged for the annual tree-planting ceremony on the lawn of Macon County Courtouse in honor of crime victims. A tree has been donated by the Northeast Citizens Advisory Board of Probation and Parole.
The ceremony will be held on Wednesday, April 14 at approximately 1 p.m. It is to include remarks from Judge Hadley Grimm and Macon Count Victim Advocate Erica Nobles.
A ceremony is also to be held at the Shelby County Courthouse on Tuesday, April 13 at noon.
