The heat Wednesday didn’t stop volunteers from carrying the torch through Macon during the annual Missouri Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics. The torch that is transported from Kirksville in a vehicle is handed over to the Macon participants. The Macon runners travel from Hardee’s through downtown Macon and end at Casey’s General Store on South Missouri Street. The torch then is taken to Moberly. The Macon runners made a stop at US Bank for water and a quick rest. The event helps raise funds and awareness for more than 15,000 athletes who participate in the Missouri Special Olympics.
