Weather was perfect and by 2:15 p.m. on Thursday traffic on Highway 36 started flowing at a normal pace after barricades were removed opening the new four-lane section east of Macon. The section that opened from Macon to Clarence was to include the interchange at Clarence. Signs and channelizers were in place to help direct traffic onto the new lanes. This will include new route marking signs, which will direct motorists to their destinations. Motorists were delayed during the opening as various lanes were closed to allow for the removal of conflicting striping on the existing lanes. Motorists are encouraged to be cautious as traffic adjusts to the new traffic patterns. The four-lane project from Shelbina to Clarence is expected to be opened to traffic by July 2010.
