A special award was presented to the Macon County Sheriff’s Office, in honor of the late David “Davey” Gwin, a former Chief Jailer. Gwin suffered a heart attack on June 24, 2007 while wrestling with an inmate. He died shortly after. Gwin had served with the Sheriff’s Office for 24 years. Pictured is Macon County Sheriff Robert Dawson (left) being presented with the plaque by Ellis Peoples (right) of the Correctional Peace Officers Foundation of Sacramento, Calif.
