Capt. Christopher McLin of Bevier flew over Afghanistan with an American Flag in  a jet on his father’s birthday. He later gave his father, Randy McLin, the flag. The flag was hoisted up a new flag pole at the Bevier junction during a ceremony Tuesday night which happened to be Capt. McLin’s birthday.
Randy McLin approached the Bevier City Aldermen months ago requesting help in installing a flag pole at the junction. With help from several people the pole was erected.
Flags are to be raised on a Bevier soldier’s birthday.
“Now the military will be honored,” Rev. Scott Dalrymple said during Tuesday ceremony. He said maybe people who see the flag might take the time to reflect on a servicemen.
Bevier Mayor Bill Cosby said they hope to eventually have a light located near the flag pole so a flag can wave to passerbys 24-hours a day.
The flag was lowered and and a member of the color guard presented the “stars and stripes” to Capt. McLin’s grandfather, Dan McVicker, who accepted the flag for the McVicker and McLin families.
