Officers with the Macon Police Department and North Missouri Drug Task Force executed two search warrants and an arrest warrant Wednesday morning at SmellgoodZ in downtown Macon.
According to Macon Police Chief Steve Olinger, at 10:45 a.m. officers surrounded the building that opened for business in the 100 block of North Rollins in the middle of January.
After being in the place of business for over an hour, officers left from the back of the building, coming down a stairway with boxes containing a large amount of evidence and a suspect Stephen D. Wright, 31, of Macon. Wright, who is an employee of the business, was escorted to a police car wearing handcuffs.
Chief Olinger said several K-2 type products, and synthetic narcotics (bath salts) were found at the scene.
Wright was charged with felony delivery or manufacturing of imitation controlled substance,  misdemeanor unlawful use of drug paraphernalia, and misdemeanor promoting sale of drug paraphernalia or imitation controlled substance. Wright’s bond was set at $4,500 cash only or surety allowed, Chief Olinger said.
Chief Olinger said an investigation that led to the warrants began on Jan. 6 following a report of an attempted burglary. During that investigation in an apartment above the downtown business officers observed three white male subjects smoking what was possibly a controlled substance.
“The search of an apartment and business located in the 100 block of Rollins on Wednesday was a result of the investigation that began in January,” Chief Olinger said. “A large amount of evidence relating to the manufacture/use and sales of what we believe to be a synthetic cannabinoid was seized. My officers and officers with the North Missouri Drug Task Force have conducted a lengthy...very thorough investigation. The officers have put in many hours leading up to today’s arrest.”
At the same time the search warrant was being executed in Macon, officers with the Brookfield Police Department, Missouri State Highway Patrol and North Missouri Drug Task Force executed a search warrant at SmellsgoodZ at 306 North Main in Brookfield.
Chris Brown with the North Missouri Drug Task Force, said scales, pipes, money, computers and ledgers and prepackaged Bocomo Dew, labeled as an herbal aromatherapy potpourri, and Sedation, labeled as a herbal incense, and Circle V, labeled as fine bath powder, were seized from the property in Brookfield.
Brown said there were no arrests made in Brookfield.
