On Wednesday afternoon, Cindy Teter of rural Atlanta, was trying to find a place to start clean up after her family’s home was destroyed by fire Tuesday night.

Stolen items recovered

Many decorations were stolen from private yards and from church Nativitiy Scenes in Bevier and Macon, including at least five baby Jesus statues. Unlike the Grinch, who returned the stolen items to the folks in Whoville, the Macon County Sheriffs Office and Bevier Police Chief received a tip that led them to the stolen items at a residence in Bevier and another residence in Macon.

Huntsville man jailed for stealing from an elderly woman

A 40-year-old Huntsville man is being held in the Macon County Jail on burglary charges with a $20,000 cash only bond.

Macon County Sheriff Robert Dawson said, Johnny A. Thomas on Oct. 17, allegedly convinced an elderly Bevier woman that he represented a home health agency. While in her home he stole her purse that held a large sum of money.

Sheriff Dawson said Thomas, who is on parole, and has other charges pending in Randolph County, was charged for this incident with burglary 1st degree and felony stealing.

Five suspects charged in meth lab bust

Macon County Sheriff Robert D. Dawson announced the filing of formal charges against five individuals culminating from a week long investigation.

Callao woman arrested at Macon Wal-Mart

On Friday  afternoon, the Macon Police Department arrested a Callao woman at Wal-Mart.
According to Macon Police Chief Steve Olinger, his department received a call around 11:45 a.m. from Wal-Mart requesting their assistance with an alleged employee theft.
Officers met with Wal-Mart’s Loss Prevention and the employee was placed under arrest, and was transported to the Macon Police Department.
The Macon County Sheriffs Office reported, Vickie Sue Thompson, 43, of Callao was charged with Class D felony of fraudulently attempting to obtain a controlled substance. The sheriffs office said she posted bond of $4,500 cash surety.

On Tuesday, a manhunt for two men who fled the scene of a failed burglary at Rock Hill Mechanical. One of the suspects was apprehended in a bean field northeast of Macon around 8:30 am.
