Macon County R-1 hosted the 25th Annual Regional Math Contest on Sat., March 27.  This is the ninth consecutive year Macon has hosted the contest. This year’s event was attended by 15 surrounding school districts with 128 registered students.  Committee members for the day were: Cindy Saltsgaver,  Tracee Claas, Leslie Miller, Shelly Spain, Pat Bradshaw, Jessica Hulett, Amy Wilson, and Tonya Grant.
Macon Contestants were:  4th Grade-Paige Hawkins, Emily Howe, Lillie Kacmar, Miranda Ward, Colton Yount; 5th Grade-Madison Ballance, Kyle Boyce, Nolan Bright, Brock Emanuel, Tristan Shrum;     6th Grade-Alex Burden, James Mitchell, Mackenzie Reilly, Xzavier Owens, Rebecca Wilcox.
Saltsgaver was the fourth grade sponsor. Fifth grade sponsors were Hulett, Spain and 6th grade sponsor was  Miller. 
All the participating students are at the top of their math class. The contestants are chosen by their first semester math grades as well as scoring well on the qualifying test in January.
According to Saltsgaver, the students have been busy preparing for the contest; working a lot of extra after school hours with both parents and their sponsors. “All the students did an outstanding job on Saturday,” said Saltsgaver. 
Each student was tested on Concepts and Problem Solving. Those from Macon County R-1 who placed in the top ten are:   
•Kyle Boyce - 5th Grade,Concepts:                 Alternate  2nd place; 5th Grade Problem Solving:  Alternate 1st Place.               
•Tristan Shrum -  5th Grade Problem Solving:    4th Place.
•Madison Ballance - 5th Grade Problem Solving:  7th Place.   
• James Mitchell -6th Grade Concepts: Alternate 1st Place; 6th Grade Problem Solving -Alternate    2nd Place.
•Mackenzie Reilly - 6th Grade Concepts: 3rd Place.
• Rebecca Wilcox -  6th Grade Concepts: 9th Place.
The top three students in each event qualified for the State MCTM Math Contest held in Springfield on May 1.
