Students learn how to care for the earth

The Missouri Department of Natural Resources’ Northeast Regional Office hosted an Earth Day event at the Macon County Fairground Park on Thursday, April 22. The Earth Day eventfocused primarily on the 4th grade students from Macon County schools. Approximately 200 students, teachers and helpers attended this event. The students were able to learn many different aspects of the environment and had fun learning how to improve the earth we all live in. The students were taught about recycling, clean drinking water, water pollution, household hazardous waste and asbestos. Many different federal and state gencies also helped in this educational opportunity. The other agencies involved were the Missouri Department of Conservation, Missouri Department of Natural Resources’ State Parks, US Fish and Wildlife, and the Randolph Soil and Water Conservation District.
