Butch Coleman of Bevier was diagnosed with non-small cell lung cancer on New Year’s Day 2010. The 60-year-old was sick in the fall of 2009 and developed pneumonia. While in a Columbia hospital on Jan. 1 doctors told him he had cancer. Butch took his last chemotherapy treatment Tuesday. He is to have a CAT scan to see if the tumors have shrunk.
On Saturday, May 1, the community is going to have a benefit dinner, auction and dance for Butch.
Debbie Cress, one of the organizers for the benefit, said, Butch, who originally grew up in Clarence, has lived in Bevier for many years with his wife, Janet of 40 years. Butch worked for Rick’s Service and Tire in Bevier doing front-end alignments for 25 years.
The May 1 benefit is to start with a hog roast dinner at 5 p.m; an auction at 7 p.m..; and a live band and dance following the auction.
Raffle tickets are being sold for a Snap-on .22 caliber lever action rifle manufactured by Henry; and chances are being sold on a Bushnell Bowhunter’s edition range finder.
Other items to be auctioned are:
•Ardent reel with Daiwa rod.
•Three tier large tool box.
•Sprint cup/ K.C. Raceway package/fall race (suite tickets, motel, garage passes, meet drivers).
•Old silver coins.
•Handmade duck calls.
•Air nailer.
•Bolt bin.
•Very large box of fireworks display.
•18 ton black dirt (hauled within 30 miles of Bevier).
•Comfort Inn pool party.
•Five cedar log lawn carvings.
•Several gift certificates.
