The Scott & Cindy Teter family of Atlanta lost their home in a fire on Tuesday night. The structure is believed to be a total loss.
According to Jason Miller, Chief of the Callao Town and Country Fire Department, the page went out at 8:50 p.m. on Tuesday of a structure fire at the Teter home on Highway 3, approximately one mile south of Highway J in  rural Atlanta.
Miller said that over 30 firefighters from the Atlanta, Callao, Elmer, Bevier and LaPlata Fire Departments responded to the blaze.
Miller said that the home was fully engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived. The family was not home at the time. Miller thought that a neighbor called 911 to report the fire.
Miller said Callao firefighters remained on the scene until 2 a.m. Wednesday morning. The Atlanta Fire Department remained at the scene until later.
The Teter’s have three children, two college-age sons and a daughter in first grade.
“Our sons had just left for a trip to Thailand for college,” said Cindy Teter. “They don’t know about the fire yet,” she said Wednesday afternoon. “We are trying to reach them before they hear about it on Facebook.”
Cindy Teter’s photography equipment was destroyed in the fire. She is hoping to be able to save some of the photo’s she has taken that are stored on the hard drive of her computer.
This is not the first time that fire has touched Cindy’s life.
“We had a fire at home when I was a junior at Atlanta High School,” she said. “My mother was able to save some of our family photos.”
“If I had been home that is what I would have done, too,” said Cindy.
The least damage was in the area of the couple’s bedroom. Some things in the bedroom may be salvageable.
Teter said that they do not know yet what started the fire.
The Church WithOut Walls is organizing an “eventless event” to get assistance to the family as quickly as possible.
According to Aaron Baker they are organizing a “Money Bomb” to raise money for the family. “We would like to raise $1,000 in seven days,” said Baker.
You may send your tax-deductible gift payable to Church WithOut Walls to 619 S. Williamson St., Atlanta, MO 63530 or give to Baker or Sharon Collier.
For more information Baker may be reached at 660-281-7777. Baker says that he will report the progress of the “Money Bomb” fund on the church’s facebook page at facebook.com/churchwow
