The Macon Skate Center was full of laughter on Wednesday evening, but this wasn’t the usual laughter coming from the rink. It was laughter with a little extra Christmas spirit—because it was the Macon Women of Today and Macon Jaycees’ annual Children’s Christmas Party.
“Members of the Women of Today look forward to this event every year,” said Women of Today President Laura Morris. “It has a way of humbling you and makes you realize how fortunate you are.”
Since the 50s the Macon Jaycees and Macon Women of Today have worked together to throw their annual Children’s Christmas Party. This year there were 21 Macon R-I students, ranging from kindergarten to fifth grade, who were selected to participate.
“They were a great group of kids,” said Macon Jaycees President Lorie Thompson. “I think everyone had a great time!”
The students got to enjoy pizza and cookies, roller skating and crafts. They even got a special visitor by the end of the party.
“To see the looks on the kids faces when they see Santa come in, it warms your heart,” said Morris. “One kid was just pleased that Santa spelt his name right on his presents. I told him Santa knows everything, and his eyes just lit up.”
