At approximately 4:43 p.m. on Thursday, December 5, the Macon Fire Department was dispatched to the report of a fire at Granuband. According to Macon Fire Chief Ross Dutton, heavy black smoke was coming from the building upon their arrival. Two containers containing rubber product, two machines that process the rubber, and a portion of the ventilation system was on fire.
There were 14 firefighters and two trucks on the scene. The fire was brought under control at 6:58 p.m. and all fire department units left the scene at 7:49 p.m.
The Macon Police Department, Macon Municipal Utilities, and Macon County Ambulance assisted on the scene.
At this time, the fire has been determined as accidental.
