  • According to the Macon Police Department, at approximately 9:05 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 27, a Macon Police Officer attempted enforcement contact with a vehicle in the area of Missouri and Main Streets. The vehicle failed to yield to the emergency vehicle and continued to travel, turning east onto Vine Street and coming to a stop in the 800 block of Vine Street. The driver of the vehicle exited and fled on foot while an officer attempted to pursue the suspect. Passengers of the vehicle, including a juvenile, remained with the vehicle and officers of the Macon Police Department conducted investigation into the identity of the driver, a white male of Shelbina. Officers were unable to apprehend the suspect.
    At approximately 2:50 a.m. on Thursday, November 28, police had enforcement contact with a vehicle in which one white male suspect gave false information to officers. Officers later identified this to be the same suspect as the driver who fled officers hours before.
    On December 1, another officer of the Macon Police Department identified a suspect wanted for fleeing from police in the 200 block of North Rubey Street. Upon attempting contact with the suspect, the suspect fled the area on foot, leading officers to pursue him. A short time later, police located the suspect in the area of Vine and Rollins Streets.
    Arrest warrants for all the incidents were obtained through the Macon Municipal Court for Joesph E. Mefford, 19 of Shelbina, for resisting arrest by fleeing, endangering the welfare of a child, failure to obey reasonable command of an officer, driving without a valid license, careless and imprudent driving, filing a false report, exceeding the posted speed limit and failure to provide proof of insurance.
    The suspect was placed in the Macon County Jail where he is being held in lieu of $1,155.00 bond, city. Formal charges were later filed in Division II court for resisting arrest. The suspect is being held in lieu of $15,000 state bond.
