According to the Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC), processing a deer after it was harvested is a great way to save money and achieve personal satisfaction. MDC is hosting a deer processing workshop at the MDC Northeast Regional Office in Kirksville on December 9 from 6 to 9 p.m. The program is free, but pre-registration is required.
The workshop will cover the process of harvesting a deer from the field to the freezer including skinning, quartering and the various cuts of meat. All necessary equipment will be provided.
“This is an excellent opportunity for deer hunters to learn, or maybe brush up on, the necessary skills to process their own deer,” said MDC Outdoor Skills Specialist Rob Garver. “We will offer tips on how to make good burger, jerky and steaks.”
Participants are asked to dress appropriately for the weather. The workshop is open to anyone 14 and older; participants between 14–18 years old must be accompanied by an adult.
