The Macon R-1 Middle School Gym was filled with patriotic music on Monday evening for the elementary music program "Honoring Our Country and Our Veterans".
Performing for the standing room only crowd were students in the third grade and members of the fourth and fifth grade Celebration Singers.
The third grade opened the program by singing "The Star-Spangled Banner with narrators Kohl Bush, Madison Elrod and Morgan Farris.
Other numbers included "My Flag" with Tanner Nelson and Aleigh Fuller; "I Love My Country" with featured performers Mykel Linear, Taija Watson, Shelby Davis, Brenna Holman, Alyse Lampkin and Ava Pillers.
Gage Lewis, Ann Marie Andrews and Brooklyn Gooding took part in the reading "Take a Moment to Thank a Veteran" by Joanna Fuchs.
"Thank a Vet" featured soloists Emily Kirtlink and Cailin Ewing and narrators Hayden Burns, Delaney Foster and Gunnar Mohn.
Elementary vocal music instructor Kimberly Brown said that third graders experienced two different auditions in preparing for the program.
"I was amazed at how many students were interested in the small groups and solos," said Brown. "There is a lot of great talent in this third grade class, so deciding who would have extra parts in the program was a difficult process. I am very proud of all who auditioned."
The third graders were joined by the Celebration Singers to sing "America the Beautiful".
The Celebration Singers sang "Bless Our Troops" with narrators Jacee Johnson and Dalton Oldham; "American Tears" with soloist Sara Brimer.
Featured singers for "This is America" were: Mickayla Aldridge, Ashanti Mayfield, Jancyn Moyer, Danielle Neeson, Abbigail Propst, Jaden Gholston-Mitchell, Sade Mitchell, Jasmine Outlaw, Gehana Patel, Chezney Smith and Harley Stucki.
Sofia Burks and Jacob Rodgers presented a reading, "The Eleventh Hour" by Mir Tamin Ansary.
