UNIONVILLE, Mo. – Putnam County jumped out on Fayette 30-0 in the first half, but in the second half the rain and the Falcons came. PC had four second-half turnovers that allowed Fayette to get back within 10 points. The Midgets regrouped and pulled away for a 42-26 win.
“Tonight got started with a bang. We got up big early and we were playing pretty well. We mixed it up on offense and our defense did what they were supposed to do,” said Putnam County head coach Dave Cavanah.
The sudden downpour might have played a factor in the Midgets second half struggles. Cavanah really isn’t sure what happened to his team after the break.
“I can’t say what happened. We just weren’t playing the same, I don’t know if we relaxed and started thinking the game was in the bag or what. It turned into an ugly game, but an ugly win is better than a pretty loss any day,” said Cavanah.
PC advances to the second round to re-match against Milan, their archrival who they played just a mere two weeks ago. That game will be on Wednesday and this time it will be in Milan.
