An Atlanta teen was flown by Air Evac to University Hospital in Columbia with what appeared to be serious injuries following a two-vehicle accident Thursday. The accident occurred at 7:15 p.m. on Fountain Street, one mile northeast of Elmer.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Kailin L. Dunham, 16, was a passenger on a 2005 Yamaha Raptor ATV driven by Tyler H. Thurman, 13, of Atlanta.
The westbound ATV was stopped and struck by a westbound 2001 GMC 3500 pickup driven by Jeremy J. Jarman, 27, of La Plata. The ATV traveled off the roadway and overturned, ejecting both Thurman and Dunham.
According to the report, Jarman left the scene. He was later arrested on charges of felony leaving the scene of a motor vehicle accident and careless and imprudent driving involving an accident. He was taken to the Macon County Jail where he posted $4,500 cash or surety bond and was released.
The patrol was assisted at the scene by the Macon County Rescue Squad and the Elmer Fire Department.
