A mini-clinic was held at the Long Branch Area YMCA on Saturday for boys and girls participating in the fall flag football league. According to YMCA Membership Director Brandi Kohl, there were around 80 kids attending the clinic.
Macon R-I High School head football coach Pete Claas and head middle school coach Jason Martie along with approximately 20 members of the Macon Tiger football team were instructors for the clinic.
The kids were divided into several sections that covered skills such as passing, catching, blocking, hiking the ball and general terminology of the game of football.
"This is something nice we can do for the YMCA," said Claas. "They are such an important part of our community. And it is good for the high school players to work with these younger kids who look up to them."
Approximately 150 children ranging in ages from 4-years-old through 4th grade are participating in the flag football league. The action will begin on Saturday, Sept. 14 and continue each Saturday through Oct. 12. The games are held on Don Schelle Field near the YMCA building with the first games beginning at 9 a.m.
