City of Macon employees work together day in and day out to provide services to the citizens of Macon, but on September 12, 2013 they have a different plan. Animal Control Officer Dan Wright, Fire Engineer Matt Bunton and Fire Chief Ross Dutton have coordinated the first ever City Employee Softball Game to bring employees together for another reason. Dan Wright talked with fellow employees and wanted to put together a fundraising event for all employees to participate.
The public is invited to attend on Thursday evening. September 12, 2013 at approximately 7 p.m. as employees and their spouses from all city departments—Animal Control, City Hall, Fire, Municipal Court, Street, Parks and Police—volunteer their time and gather to play a fun game of co-ed softball at the Don Schelle Fields. Each player will make a $5 donation to play. A small donation of $2 is asked of spectators. The game will be officiated by City Administrator Allan Muncy and City Clerk Vicky McLeland. According to Dan Wright, all proceeds will be donated to charity of the winning teams choice.
In addition to the softball game, the concession stand will be in operation by employee volunteers in an effort to increase the evening's proceeds. The city employees are looking forward to an opportunity to pay together and help a charity all at the same time. They are hoping for cooler temperatures and a good crowd for the event.
