On the softball field, there is probably no bigger rivalry in Macon County than when Bevier takes on La Plata.
This was the case Thursday night, as the Lady Cats played host to their rivals from the north, the Lady Dogs, in non-Tri-County action.
La Plata would have the early advantage against Lady Cat pitcher Beth Ashenfelter, scoring four runs in the first inning, including a two-run single from Tiffany Easley.
The Lady Cats would come back in the bottom half of the inning against Lady Dog hurler Kalie Lene, scoring two runs, but could not push any more across with two on and one out. La Plata led 4-2 after an inning.
Bevier would get one run in the third inning to get within one run, 4-3, which would hold up until the fifth inning.
The fifth inning is where the fun began for Bevier, as they would score 10 runs in the frame to grab a huge 13-4 lead, but couldn't push across one more for the run-rule, so the game advanced to the sixth.
The Lady Dogs would score a run in the sixth to cut the lead to eight, but Bevier came right back with the two they needed for the mercy rule, giving the Lady Cats a 15-5 win.
The victory went to Beth Ashenfelter, who pitched all six innings, allowing five runs, one earned, on five hits, walking four and striking out two, hitting one batter.
On offense, Caiti Bradley would go 3-5 with a walk, two RBIs and three runs scored. Ceianna Edwards would go 2-5 with a walk, two RBIs and three runs scored.
Memphis Buster went 3-5 with three RBIs and a run scored. Shiloh Wilson was 3-5 with two RBIs and two runs scored.
Beth Ashenfelter was 2-4 from the plate with two runs scored. Alexis Schultz was 2-4 with an RBI and two runs scored.
Rachel Lowe was 2-3 with three RBIs and a run scored. Karissa Harrington was 1-4 with two RBIs and a run scored.
For La Plata, Kalie Lene started in the circle, and was later relieved by Kelsi Hemmerling. No other pitching stats were available at press time.
From the plate, Lene was 1-4. Morgan Kimmel was 1-3. LaDonna White had two walks. Tiffany Easley was 2-3 with two RBIs. Alex Carmack was 1-1 with two walks and an RBI. Camrie Feinberg was 1-3.
In the baseball game that followed, La Plata would avoid the sweep by winning a shoot-out over Bevier 15-12.
Seth Shurvington was the starting pitcher for Bevier, and took the loss, allowing 15 earned runs on 12 hits, walking six and striking out seven.
On offense, Shurvington was 0-4, but had a walk and two RBIs. Tony Humphreys was 2-5 with two RBIs.
