  • Angelina Jolie will receive an honorary Academy Award for her humanitarian work, the Board of Governors of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced Thursday. In addition to Jolie, who won Best Supporting Actress for Girl, Interrupted in 2000, Angela Lansbury, Steve Martin and costume designer Piero Tosi will also receive honorary awards.
"The Governors Awards pay tribute to individuals who've made indelible contributions in their respective fields," Academy President Cheryl Boone Isaacs said in a statement. "We couldn't be more excited for this year's honorees and look forward to bringing their peers and colleagues together to celebrate their extraordinary achievements."

While Jolie will earn the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award for her social work, Lansbury will receive her first Academy Award in tribute to her seven-decade career. Lansbury has been nominated three times for Academy Awards, the first for her 1944 film debut in Gaslight and then for her turns in The Picture of Dorian Gray and The Manchurian Candidate.
Martin has hosted the Oscars three times. A writer, actor, comedian and musician, he received an Oscar nomination for the short film The Absent-Minded Waiter in 1977. Martin responded to the news on Twitter, writing: "I'm proud to win an honorary Oscar this year. A salute to comedy and all the great people I've worked with."
Tosi, a costume designer who is best known for his collaborations with director Luchino Visconti, has been nominated for an Academy Award five times, including for White Nights and La Cage aux Folles.
