  • The Macon Tigerettes softball team faced off against Hallsville and Monroe City this week.

  • After a rough 2012 season, the Macon Tigerettes softball team will try to right the ship in 2013.
    On Wednesday night, the Tigerettes opened the season against the Lady Indians of Hallsville, but things would not go well, as the visitors would come away with a 9-0 victory.
    Jordan Simons started for Macon, going six innings, allowing eight runs, four earned, on nine hits, walking three and striking out three.
    Shana Oliver pitched the final inning, allowing an earned run on four hits, striking out one.
    Down 3-0 after five frames, the Tigerettes were not out of it yet, but the Lady Indians would score six runs over the last two innings to put it away.
    Macon recorded only three hits on the night, as Kyra Oliver, Allie Chambers and Katy Stoecklein all had singles.
    Hallsville would finish off the sweep in the JV game, coming away with a 3-0 win over Macon.
    Madison Ballance threw four innings for Macon, allowing three earned runs on eight hits, walking four and striking out two.
    Both Tigerette teams open the season with marks of 0-1.
    On Thursday night, the Macon Tigerettes opened CCC play with a home showdown against the Monroe City Lady Panthers.
    With Macon ahead 8-5 and an out away from a win, Monroe City would get a bases-loaded double to tie the game 8-8, which would be the final score.
    Kasey Hoelscher started for the Tigerettes, going an inning, allowing three earned runs on two hits, walking three and striking out two.
    Daniele Pagliai went an inning, allowing three earned runs on two hits, walking three. Madison Ballance pitched the final two innings, allowing two earned runs on six hits, striking out two.
    Hoelscher was 2-2 from the plate with two RBIs and two runs scored. Pagliai was 1-2 with three RBIs.
    Mackenzie Reilly was 1-1 with a walk, two RBIs and a run scored. Elyse Wilhoit was 0-1 with a run scored. Mackenzie Claas scored a run.
    Abby Seipel had a walk. Taylor Brucks was 1-2. Regan Gravitt was 1-2 with a run scored. Kayla Cason was 1-1 with an RBI.
    Madison Ballance was 1-1, and Jocie Hogsett scored two runs.
    The JV Tigerettes now sit at 0-1-1.
    In the varsity game, the Tigerette bats would back up the outstanding performance by senior pitcher Jordan Simons, who came within seven outs of a perfect game.
    Simons would go the distance for Macon anyway, leading the Tigerettes to a 6-0 shutout win over Monroe City.
    Simons didn't allow a baserunner until the fifth inning with two outs. She would go seven innings, giving up two hits, walking one and striking out 11 Lady Panther batters.
    Page 2 of 2 - Offensively, Simons would have an RBI to help her own cause. Tyra Douglas would go 1-4.
    Kayla Vansickle would go 2-3 with an RBI. Shana Oliver would score a run. Annie Chambers would go 1-3.
    Allie Chambers would go 2-3 with a walk, RBI and a run scored. Katie Clapp would go 3-3 with a walk and three runs scored.
    Shelby Schaefer was 1-3 with an RBI, and Katy Stoecklein was 2-3 with two RBIs and a run scored.
    The varsity Tigerettes improve to 1-1 overall (1-1 CCC) and travel west to Brookfield Tuesday night.
