      Did you know?
      • Until the 1990s, the Macon swimming pool was the largest outdoor pool in the state.

•The swimming pool holds 550,000 gallons of water.

      • An arsonist tried to destroy the pool house in 2006.

      • Opening day for the swimming pool was June 22, 1938.

      • The only year the pool had a late opening was in 2006 because of the fire.

  • The City of Macon had its fifth annual City Pool Party on Monday, July 22.
"The attendance had gone down from last year, but 236 individuals this year was plenty," laughs Macon City Clerk Vicky McLeland. "It was busy but we love to do it. We encourage and look forward to a big turnout, so we were happy with that."
Pool party attendees enjoyed free admittance to the pool with hot dogs, soda, chips and snow cones provided free of charge.
"It is just something we do for the community to keep them aware that the pool is there and we want them to use it," said McLeland. ""And it's a thank you to the individuals who patronize the pool all season long because we have return guests all the time."
