  • It is time for American Red Cross' Battle of the Badges Blood Drive in Macon. The competition will be between the Macon Police and Fire Departments. Each department gives time to the community; they give a sense of security to residents; and they often give blood, too. As local heroes to many, their courage in the face of adversity bolsters people in need.
But the Battle isn't just for local fire and police; anyone can get involved in the fun by donating blood and voting for a favorite team. "The Macon Fire Department has won the Battle every year so far," said Modeste Ewing with the Macon Police Department. "It is a friendly rivalry and raises a lot of blood for Red Cross, but we sure would like another chance at the trophy." Blood Drive Coordinator, Rita Boveri adds, "Both departments invite the community to join them in being heroes for the day by donating blood. There is always a need and they can join the friendly rivalry by voting for fire or police."
Join the Battle and donate at the Macon Battle of the Badges Blood Drive on Friday, July 12, from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. in the Macon Middle School Gymnasium. Donors may choose to pre-register an appointment online at www.redcrossblood.org using sponsor keyword MaconCoTechHS. All presenting donors will receive a free T-shirt and can vote for a favorite team.
When this contest is over, the Battle of the Badges winner gets bragging rights and a small trophy. But most importantly, hospital patients throughout Missouri are also winners because they get the life-saving blood they need to survive. Anyone can become a hero during Battle of the Badges. This is your chance to help.
