Boat lights are twinkling on Long Branch Lake as fireworks boom close by with the reflections glowing ontop of the lake. The beach and grassy areas surrounding the lake are covered with individuals oohing and ahhing after each big bang that echoes across the lake.
According to staff at the Department of Natural Resources there were approximately 3,000 individuals who came out to enjoy the fireworks at Long Branch Lake for the 4th of July.
"The event overall was a smashing success," said Long Branch Lake State Park Superintendent Jered Wisdom. "We had a friendly crowd and a great amount of people participated in the various activities."
This was the first year fireworks were shot off at Long Branch Lake. But fireworks weren't the only activity for individuals to enjoy. There was a sand castle building contest, three-legged race, water balloon contest, Little Mr. and Miss Long Branch Pageant and more.
"There were about 50 or 60 boats on the water to watch fireworks," said Wisdom. "It is probably the largest number of boats I've ever seen on the lake at once. The event went really well. I think Long Branch and the Chamber might work to make it an even bigger show next year. "
