The Missouri State Highway Patrol was called to U.S. 36 and Kellogg Avenue at approximately 4:15 p.m. on Thursday, July 4 for an accident.
Kathleen Gentner, 72, of Macon was attempting to cross U.S. 36 and was struck in the driver's side by an eastbound vehicle driven by Bethany Dodd, 18, of Shelbyville.
Gentner was pronounced dead at the scene by Macon County Coroner Brian Hayes. It is unknown whether or not she was wearing her safety device.
Dodd was accompanied by Sara Hatfield, 25, and Wyatt Hatfield, 5, both of Shelbina. They were all wearing their safety devices. Dodd and Sara Hatfield were transported to Samaritan Hospital with minor injury. Wyatt Hatfield was transported to University Hospital with moderate injury.
This accident was assisted by Macon County Rescue, Macon County Ambulance, Macon County Rural Fire and Macon Police Department.
This is Troop B's eighth fatality for 2013.
