  • Youngsters can get a healthy lunch this summer at three sites in Macon, thanks to the Summer Food Service Program for Children provided by the Food Back for Central and Northeast Missouri.
Rubey Street Park, 403 E. Rubey, Jackson Street Park and Macon Housing, 712 Sheffield Drive, will be the sites of the program July 8 through August 16. Hours are 11:30 a.m. to noon Monday through Thursdays.
The program is designed to ensure that children and teens who rely on free or reduced price meals during the school year continue to have adequate nutrition throughout the summer.
Meals will be provided to all children without charge and are the same for all children regardless of race, color, national origin, sex, age or disability, and there will be no discrimination in the course of the meal.
For additional information, contact Becky Belt at 660-651-1826.
The Food Bank provides free food to 131 food pantries, soup kitchens, domestic abuse shelters and other agency partners in 32 counties. These include Macon County Ministries Food Pantry and La Plata Christian Ministries in Macon County.
