Fourth of July is right around the corner. And with that comes, you guessed it, fireworks! This year the fireworks celebration will be at Long Branch Lake State Park.
"This is our first year," said Long Branch State Park Superintendent Jered Wisdom. "I think it will be great."
The festives start at 3 p.m. at the beach with a sand castle building contest, bubble gum blowing contest and three-legged race.
"These events are for individuals of all ages," said Wisdom. "We encourage families to participate."
Starting at 7 p.m. is the first Little Mr. and Miss Long Branch pageant. Contestants must be from ages 4 to 7. Individuals can sign up now at the marina up until 6 p.m. that evening.
And then come the fireworks! The fireworks will be shot across from the beach starting at 9:30 p.m. Wisdom says there will be individuals directing traffic for appropriate parking and fireworks will be visible from the beach, camp ground, dam and from the water. The events and fireworks are free of charge, no alcohol or personal fireworks are allowed. Additionally, the marina will be open.
