  • Elmer L. Noland, Sr., the son of Alvie Lee and Virginia Fay (Day) Noland, was born in Urbana, Missouri, on July 13, 1940.  He attended Quitman, Missouri schools.
    On May 29, 1959, Elmer was united in marriage to Sandra Lee Howell, in Miami, Oklahoma. They made their home in Quitman for a year, before moving to the San Francisco Bay area in California. Elmer was employed as a meat cutter and eventually was certified a Journeyman Butcher. He was a member of the United Food and Commercial Workers Union to the present time. In 1972, they moved to Tarkio, Missouri, and Elmer was employed by the Missouri Beef Packers, Phelps City, Missouri, which later became Excel. After its closing, Elmer was employed by Golden Valley Popcorn in Hamburg, Iowa, retiring in 2004.
    Elmer was talented in gardening, and in later years, telling Sandy how to do it to his specifications.  He enjoyed a special relationship with brother-in-law, Billy Howell and enjoyed Sunday visits with Darrell Chitwood.  The joy of his life was his family and stated often that he had the most beautiful granddaughters in the entire world.  He attended the Assembly of God Church in Tarkio. Elmer passed away Wednesday, June 19, 2013, at Grape Community Hospital, Hamburg, at the age of 72.  
    Elmer was preceded in death by parents, Alvie Lee and Virginia Fay (Day) Noland and siblings, Alpha Lee and Walter Guy Noland.  Survivors include wife, Sandra, Hamburg; children, Elmer Lewis “Sonny” Noland, Jr. and wife, Lois, Macon, Missouri, David Lee Noland and wife, Anita, Alva, Oklahoma, Daniel Leroy Noland and wife, Terri, Donald Lawrence Noland, and wife, Kristy, all of Tarkio, Missouri, and Douglas Walter William Leon Noland and wife, Michelle, Farragut, Iowa; 20 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; siblings, Juanita Fay Carmichael and husband, Dwayne, Maryville, Missouri, Roberta Sue Clark and husband, Phillip, Tarkio, Eliza Mae Beasing and husband, Robert, Rock Port, Missouri, Delmer Leon Noland and wife, Regina, Tarkio, Delma Lee Brammer and husband, Tom, Glenwood, Iowa, Mildred Joan Stevens and husband, Chris, Tarkio; and brother-in-law, William Howell, Utica, Nebraska.
    Funeral Service will be at 10:00 A.M., Monday, June 24, 2013, at the Assembly of God Church, Tarkio, Missouri. Interment is at Quitman Cemetery, Quitman, Missouri. The family will receive friends 5:00-6:00 P.M., Sunday, June 23, 2013, at Davis Funeral Home, Tarkio. Memorials can be made to Quitman Cemetery.
