If you wake up early to drive to work, you may notice there are generally individuals walking or running through Macon, however, Saturday morning was a different story. The Macon Chamber of Commerce and ConAgra held its first annual Child Hunger Ends Here 5k where approximately 125 individuals were running and/or walking through Macon.
"For it being the first year, we had an excellent turnout," said Macon Chamber of Commerce Administrative Assistant Darla Dwiggins. "There were about 125 runners and walkers, and we collected about 800 pounds of food. It was a huge success."
All of the food donated will go toward the Emergency Food Pantry in Macon.
"We thought it would be fun to have a 5k," said ConAgra Plant Manager Pat Baumberger. "And to have a challenge for such a good cause."
The female race winner was Anissa Angelosante of Kirksville. The male race winner was Seth Brown of La Plata. Both individuals are pictured right.
