Imagine a child going home, opening the fridge and there is nothing inside. The child looks down at his or her growling stomach and can only wonder—when will I get to eat again?
According to the United States Department of Agriculture, 16.7 million children in the U.S. under the age of 18 live in households where this is their every day life. They are unable to consistently have access to enough nutritious food necessary for a healthy life.
In order to help end child hunger, ConAgra Foods and the Macon Area Chamber of Commerce are hosting their 1st Annual Child Hunger Ends Here 5k Run/Walk. The two-mile Run/Walk will take place at 8:05 a.m. on Saturday, June 22 in downtown and surrounding residential areas. The proceeds will go to the Macon Emergency Food Pantry.
But running isn't the only way to support the cause. ConAgra Foods and the Chamber of Commerce are also having a "Stuff the Truck" portion that has just begun. Just bring non-perishable items and canned goods to one of the various drop-off points listed below. To register for the run or for questions contact the Chamber at 660-385-2811.
