Country singer and gay rights activist Chely Wright welcomed identical twin sons on May 18 in New York City, People reports.
Although Wright and her wife, music executive Lauren Blitzer Wright, were not expecting their new arrivals until the summer, both babies are thriving, her rep says. "We are grateful for all the amazing medical care and the love and support of family and friends," Wright tells the magazine.
The boys were named George Samuel and Everett Joseph after their great-grandfathers.
The couple announced they were expecting in January. They married in August 2011, a little more than a year after Wright became the first major country singer to come out publicly as gay.
