Monell Koger, 71 of Elmer, MO passed away Thursday night, May 2, 2013 at her brother's home in Kirksville, MO after losing her battle with cancer.
Monell was born on April 15, 1942 in Kirksville, the daughter of Bernice A. and Gladys (Bailey) Mock. She was united in marriage on June 26, 1963 in Elmer to Herman "Spud" Koger, who preceded her in death on June 24, 1994. Monell was also preceded in death by her father on November 6, 1960, her mother on February 20, 2003 and her son, Kenneth Dale Koger on August 8, l982. Surviving are her brother and sister-in-law, Orin & Mary Mock of Kirksville; 3 nieces: Amy Karau, Matilda Small and Emily Chasteen; 4 great nieces and nephews: Zachary Small, Travis Small, Elizabeth Chasteen and Drew Schreiber; 4 cousins: John Mathis, Janey Whiteaker, Sandy Whitacre, Chris Meredith and Kay Marshall; other relatives and a host of friends.
Monell was a life long resident of the Elmer community and a graduate of Elmer High School. She obtained a masters degree in science education from Truman State University in Kirksville and taught in the Callao and Atlanta Schools before her retirement in l994. She was an avid St. Louis Cardinal fan.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, May 13, 2013 at 7 p.m. at the Elliott Funeral Home in Atlanta with visitation beginning at 6 p.m. A family eugoly will be delivered by her cousin, John Mathis. Burial will be at a later date in the Bunce Cemetery, west of Elmer.
