A Facebook connection led Macon R-1 Senior Brooke Bernhardt to a starring role in preparing for college promotional information from the Missouri Department of Higher Education.
Amanda (Stockham) Brown, who is a 1999 graduate from Macon High School, sent out a Facebook post for anyone interested in applying to be a model for the upcoming project.
Amanda is the Creative Director for M.D.H.E. in Jefferson City. She is married to 1995 MHS grad Joe Brown and has two daughters, Liliana, 4, and Margo, 1.
"My mom saw the post and told me I should apply," said Brooke. "I'm the kind of person who likes to try new things, so I did."
Brooke is a Macon R-1 Senior who is the daughter of Brent and Brenda Bernhardt. And on Nov. 3, Brooke went to a photo shoot with professional photographer L.G. Patterson in Columbia.
"It only took about 1 1/2 hours," said Brooke. "It was fun, I enjoyed it."
The M.D.H.E. selects new models to take part in their promotions every two years.
"We had 11 older models and seven younger kids," said Amanda. "My daughter Liliana was one of the younger models... We want to use Missouri students with real stories in our promotions."
Brooke's photo is featured on the cover of a brochure entitled "Never Too Early—College Prep Starts Now." A cameo photo of Liliana is also on the cover.
The models' information may also be used on the M.D.H.E. website, Facebook page, billboards, other publications or exhibit booths.
"You never know where they are going to pop up," said Amanda
