  • The buzz on the street is that Macon has a new club—a beekeeping club.
On Saturday, April 27, approximately 40 individuals gathered at the Career Center Commons Area to discuss starting a beekeeping club in Macon.
Individuals with no beekeeping experience up to individuals with 36 plus years experience were in attendance. And after a short presentation made by the Missouri State Beekeepers Association, the consensus was universal by a show of hands—Macon is ready for a beekeeping club.
    "We exist!" joked Dan West.
After voting on a name, the North Central Missouri Beekeepers Association, meeting attendees voted West as the President/Moderator for the organization.
The first meeting is set for May 6 at 7 p.m. in the Career Center Commons Area. Meetings will be the first Monday of every month from 7-9 p.m. The dues are donations only. Meetings will generally consist of a presentation made by a special guest followed by a Q&A.
"Although the presentations are great, it's the discussion after the program where members learn the most," said Founder of Three Rivers Beekeeping John Timmons. "The secret to a good program is lots of communication, putting together really good programs and making sure that there is a friendly environment that when people leave they have a smile on their face."
