  • The Macon Police Department, Macon Municipal Utilities and Macon County Public Water Supply District/Missouri Rural Water Association participated in the Sixth Annual National Drug Take Back Event organized by the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) on Saturday, April 27, 2013. This was the fourth event held in Macon.
According to the Macon Police Department, "We collected 59.5 pounds of unwanted medications for disposal. The next event will be held sometime this Fall. If someone has a large amount of medications they want to get rid of before then, they may call the Macon Police Department at 660-385-2195 to schedule a drop-off appointment. No questions asked."
A total of 269.5 pounds of medication has been collected from Macon residents since beginning the program in October 2011. The purpose of the program is to help prevent accidental drug overdose and misuse/abuse as well as offering a safe way to dispose of medications to avoid contamination to the community's water supply.
